Can A Bleeding Followed By Cramps After Abortion A Normal Factor?

Hi I had a surgical abortion on Monday the 24th of this month so 5 days ago and there was slight bleeding aft wards for an hour but no bleeding since until this morning, I suddenly started bleeding but it s a quite a dark brown/red ? I was getting quite painful cramping up until last night and now it has stopped and the bleeding has started, i was wondering if this is all normal or should I see a doctor?

Hi,
If there is no associated pain or foul smell and if the bleeding is mild to moderate in amount, it should be considered normal. If it does not subside in a couple of days, please contact your consultant for further management. Occasionally, after an evacuation surgically, it takes some time for the uterus to shed its endometrium and this is the most likely reason for the late onset of the bleeding. The cramps were perhaps a signal of the onset of the bleed. Please maintain genital hygiene and abstain from intercourse for another week and until you start a regular method of contraception. Hope this helps.
