Can Synthroid Affect The Pregnancy Test?

I m 30 and have hypothyroidism as well as Hashimotos. I just got on synthroid 2 months ago and I have always had major irregular periods as well as indemetriosis. I just took a home pregnancy test and it shows posative. I took it cause I thought I was cramping from PMS and my breasts have been tender for 2 weeks but I haven t started my period either. What do you think might be going on? Can it show posative results from 80 mcg of synthroid that I just started less than 2 months ago?

Hi,

It is very unlikely that synthyroid is the cause of positive pregnancy test.
The pregnancy test checks Beta hcg .
Where as the alpha part of hcg and thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) are common.
Also taking synthroid decreases the TSH not increases.
Probably the thyroid hormone has had a positive effect on your menstrual cycle ,resulting in ovulation and pregnancy.
Do see a gynaecologist for confirmation of pregnancy.

Regards.
