Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi. i have always had stellar bloodwork. i was on the hcg diet and had my routine check and my cholesterol went up almost double! seriously. however, my HDL was 86. TG 52. Have you seen this happen if you have had any experience with the diet? thank you
Good morning, Yes, many people have reported developing high cholesterol after being on the HCG diet. Some debate about the overall long term effects of this are controversial.
I do not recommend the HCG diet to anyone. The hormone itself has not proven to assist in weight loss, it is the extremely low calorie diet (800 calories) that is more significant in the weight loss process. Such low calories have side effects as well, gall stones, electrolyte imbalance and other problems, yet customers are not informed of these.
So, I would say from my experience with clients who come in on this diet is that reports of elevated cholesterol are frequent. I hope I have addressed your question. Please write back if we can help in any other way. Kathryn Shattler,MS,RDN
