Can Cortisone Ease Sinus Infection In An Asthmatic And Allergic Child?
my daughter is 5 years old and for 3 years has been suffering badly with allergies. every year she gets a sinus infection with the build up of mucus. the antibiotics clear the inefection but the mucus in her throat and nose is still there, even with hayfever medicine. She suffers from asthmatic bronchitus with all of this Would cortisone help her perhaps?
Cortisone is a steroid and would be helpful with her allergic symptoms but since it would be best, since her symptoms are due to sinusitis , that she uses topical nasal steroids.
Topical nasal steroids such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort, avamys etc would not be systemically absorbed and would act in the nasal passages and sinuses. These can be used from age 2 yrs ,some of them earlier. They would help to reduce the mucus in the nose, sinuses and throat.
I hope this helps
