Bumps On Neck, Back And Chest, Occasional Itching. What Could Be This?

Hello. My boyfriend woke up this morning with a 2 inch patch of small bumps on his neck. By late afternoon he then had them on his back and chest. The skin around the bumps isn't red and the bumps themselves are only a light shade of pink. They itch sometimes. Where the original patch is there are small purple dots that are under the skin. They don't hurt but we have no idea how to understand what this is.

Thank you for the query.
In my opinion the rash you have mentioned are hives and they will go within 6-12 hours by its own.Often their cause is elusive and the physical hives are mostly due to direct physical stimulation by environmental sources. I advice you to take antihistaminics for this anyhow only symptomatic treatment will help you as these hives goes off by their own without treatment. But if they persists more than a day and continues to irritate then you must consult a dermatologist to rule out any other causes.Thank you.
