Bruises On Inner Thigh, Bumps, Redness, Blotchy, Rashes, Have Hashimotos Disease, Overweight. Is It A Petechiae?

I noticed several small bruises on my left inner thigh. I have not been bumped or traumatized in any way. These developed over the past few days and last night as I was taking a bath I noticed what looked like a red blotchy large circular rash form right before my eyes. This all happened within just a few minutes. I have been very itchy all over my body lately. I am a 61 year old female and have Hashimoto's Disease. Could this be related to that? It isn't an above the skin rash--it looks more like very large piticia. Could it be vascular? I have been drinking alot of coffee lately and because I have become thirty pounds overweight because of the Hashi's-I began taking caffeine pills that supposedly help jump start your metabolism. Allergy?

Hi and thanks for the query,

Hashimoto s disease is generally associated with other autoimmune disease that could as well present themselves as such. Screening for diabetes mellitus with the notion of overweight is important. A complete blood count, thin blood film and if possible, a bone marrow aspirate could be very useful in excluding a central cause of these bruises. This shall be particularly important if the platelet count turns out to be low. A clotting panel and liver function tests, responsible for the synthesis of clotting factors would also be important to be done.

I suggest you consult an internist for an in depth initial clinical review for further action.

Thanks and kind regards.
