Bruised On Back Of Thigh And Knee, No Varicose Veins. What Is It?

I had a bruise on back of thigh and few days later, blood pooled in back of knee. Two weeks later, the bruise is gone and also blood behind knee, but still there is pain at the previous site of the bruise. I do not have varicose veins, non smoker and i am not over weight. I am an active 59 yr. old female. What do you think this is?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such bruise can appear if there was any trauma recently, if you take anticoagulants or if there is any coagulation blood problem.
If the described area is hard, tender to touch and painful, veins thrombosis is possible.
Blood collection in tissues can be a source of infection and turn into an abscess.

I suggest you to visit your doctor. Blood work, coagulation times and tight ultrasound should be done.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
