Bruise And Pain In The Knee After A Running Race. History Of Osgood Schlatter Disease. Can I Start Exercising?

I was running large amounts around 8-10 miles three times a week and then lower mileage other two days to train for a race. I had been doing this for a while. After the race, I cut back down to about 3-5 miles daily and now I have knee pain. After exercise, even light exercise, both of my knees hurt around the knee cap and on the inner sides. They feel bruised after workouts or as if I've twisted them. I used to have oschgood schlatter's disease when I was younger and still have the bumps from it. The pain is also in those bumps. I want to start running high mileage again to train for another race, but I want to figure out the knee pain first. I think it's weird that I had no knee pain at all when I was running high mileage and exercising more and now that I've cut back drastically it has begun.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain and bruise in the knee are suggestive of an injury to the area. The exercises in such cases are not usually recommended till the acute pain subsides. Do get an X-ray done to rule out bone injury.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
