Brownish Discharge With Foul Smell Form The Ear. Tubes In The Ear In The Past. Need To Get Checked?

hello, my 3 yr old granddaughter's right ear smells foul and recently had very dark brown discharge. Nothing from the ear today but smells like our cocker spaniels' ears when they have a serious ear infection. She had tubes in her ears at 18months old. What to do now. The daughter-in-law says everything is fine, but she has not taken her to a doctor yet.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Ear discharge should not be taken lightly. Your granddaughter should be shown to a doctor and appropriate management started.

Middle ear infection usually follows an upper respiratory tract infection which can be very painful. Thereafter rupture of the ear drum reduces the pain and discharge takes place.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your granddaughter an early recovery.

Regards,
