Broke Fibula And Got Replaced. Put On Flexible Brace. Foot Turned Purple, Cold And Toes Numb. Suggestions?

i broke my fibula on wednesday and got a cast that was too tight. they replaced it on thursday with another one too tight. on friday they put one so loose incould feel the fracture moving. today they put on a flexible brace, but so tight that my foot has turned purple, cold and my toes numb. i just untightened the brace and the condition is a bit better although my foot is still discolored and cool. i dont want to go back to that hospital. im worried about having a simple turning to catastrophe. any suggestions?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Any fracture should be immobilized in a plaster cast with optimum amount of tightness so as not to cause vascular insufficiency. Because this is hazardous and may end up in gangrene of the limb.
Your description suggests that you had a vascular compromise by the tight brace.
Good thing you have done by loosening it.
If you experience any severe pain in toes, pallor (paleness), tingling and numbess or inability to move toes, absence of pulse in the foot, you have to attend the Emergency department. Hope this helps
