Body Swelling, Diagnosed With Ulcerative Colitis. Taken Medications. Why Swelling?

I am a 22 year old female who was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 4 years. During those years I can not say that I have reached full remission. I have seen 3 gi doctors and tried a variety of medications and diets to help aleviate the pain and make this disease bare able. About a week and a half ago I was hospitalized for all common symptoms of this disease... Was on prednisone, asacol, roxy and morphine, dilaudid... IV .... When I was discharged that night my whole body swelled up. Feet, ankles, thighs, vaginal lips and around my abdomen. I was remitted the following morning. My question is, why so much swelling? Will it go away? What's it from? Please help me

Hello,
Normally patients suffering from ulcerative colitis with disease restricted upto rectum or upto upper part of left colon do quite well and chances of complications are less but in patients suffering from extensive disease, there could be severe deficiency of iron and protein resulting in anemia with hypoproteinemia, which can ultimately result in swelling of the body.
Other reason could be allergic reaction to some medicine.
Let your doctors run the test and cause would be known.
With proper diet and supplements, all deficiencies can be taken care of.
Thanks
