Blood Shot In Eye, Accidently Put Contact Lens In Eyes While Sleeping For Few Nights. What Could Be Done?

I've left my daily contacts in for a few nights accidently due to being in hospital having my baby and I woke up with a bloodshot eye at approx. 7 this morning. I immediately removed the lenses and went back to sleep. Woke back up at 11 and the eye is still blood shot. It's bank holiday and everywhere is shut.. What should I do?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
What you have done is absolutely correct in that you have taken off the contact lens. You need an ophthalmologist to see your eye as you could be having some allergy, possible infection of the cornea which needs to be treated aggressively . Till then you could possibly use an artificial tear drops upto 6times/day for symptomatic relief

Ophthalmologist Dr. Bilal Hassan's  Response
Hi Friend I am Dr Bilal and I am an Ophthalmologist
Welcome to Health Care Magic and thanks for writing to us .
I would like to answer your question and your satisfaction is my goal .

From the history given by you , there could be many possibilities of redness in your eyes , like conjunctivitis , corneal scrape which may turn into corneal ulcer , keratitis , corneal neovascularization etc , as you had been sleeping with your contact lenses on . Cornea is basically the transparent part of the eye and it is dependent on the atmospheric air for its oxygen demands . The reason of redness in your eyes could be due to poor oxygen supply to the cornea which was limited by continued contact lens wear or it could be because of some infection caused by poor contact lens hygiene . Do not wear contact lenses and use glasses . I would suggest you to visit your eye doctor as you may require antibiotic eye drops / ointment . Meanwhile you can use lubricating eye drops , wash your eye frequently and take some pain killer medicine like Ibuprofen .

I hope you will find my answer helpful .
Wish you and your baby a very speedy recovery .
Good luck .
Best regards .
