Banged The Lower Shin Very Hard, Bruised And Swollen, Feels Burning Inside Leg. What Could It Be ?

Hi last Tuesday I banged my lower shin very hard on the wooden edge of a sofa. It immediatelly bruised and was swollen. It is still swollen and bruised plus swelling has started down on the inside of my ankle and the outside. It feels at times like a burning inside of the leg. I have recently had a vein injected near where the injury is.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The burning sensation can be due to either any nerve entrapment due to the injury & swelling or due to irritative effect of the injection on the veins.

Symptomatic relief can be obtained by:
1. Analgesics & anti inflammatory medications
2. Muscle relaxants
3. Ice compress
4. Adequate rest

The sensations will decrease as the swelling subsides
However, if it still persists, it will be better to get certain investigations like X ray & nerve conduction studies done to rule out any nerve damage.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care
