Are Throat Pain And Difficulty In Swallowing Due To Thyroid Problem?

Dr., I am a diabetic of age 47 , about 5'6 feet in height and 72 kg in wt. During routine check up I found my TSH Value to be 32.19 μIU/ml. I am on insulin, ecosprin and other tablets for treatment of hypertension.Of late, I am haviing mild pain in the lower portion of my throat and difficulty in swallowing. Will the pain be due to thyroid problem. Can I suspect thyroid cancer?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes sometimes thyroid problem can cause pain in throat and discomfort. But it does not mean it is cancer. Any thyroid swelling can cause it. Don't be afraid. You can check your thyroid profile. You can do a ultrasonography to check the neck and whether there is any problem. If there is no swelling on the neck don't panic thyroid cancer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Rajat Basak
