Are 'nexpro' And 'domstal' Helpful In Treating Acid Reflux?

My question is to dr. Nitin Rao. Sir, I am suffering from occasional bouts of Acid Reflux. About 3 months ago, I undertook an endoscopy and bacteria test, everything was normal, except that I was diagnosed for acid reflux. I was prescribed Nexpro 40 - 1bb and 1bd, levazzio 25 - 1bl and 1bd both these for 1 month and tab torfix 1-1-1 for 1 week. After a month, I was a bit better but not totally cured. So I was prescribed to take Nexpro 40 - 1 bb and 1 bd for 2 more months. During these 2 months, I had about 4 instances of acid reflux. I have been asked to continue Nexpro 40 for 1 more month and if still I am not cured, I may be asked to undergo some more acid tests.

Today, I felt the acid reflux again, I took the Nexpro tab as prescribed and also took Diogenes liquid but did not feel any better, so I was asked to take 2 domstal 10 mg tablets. I took that. I don't feel like having dinner, can I go to bed without having dinner? How much time before I feel better? Is my treatment correct?

Hello dear,

Acid reflux or GERD is caused due to excess acid formation in stomach & relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.
Medical management consists of intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole (Nexpro) which prevent acid formation in stomach.
So, kindly continue the medication as advised by your treating doctor.

Additional management involves:
1. Intake of Domperidone preparations which strengthens the sphincter & prevents reflux.
2. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised.
3. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult your treating Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.
Investigation like Ultrasound scan of abdomen & Upper GI endoscopy will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Wish you a good health.
Take care.
