Are Brown Spots Normal During Periods After Abortion?

I had a medical abortion just over 2 months ago, I was around 7 weeks along when I had the abortion. I bled for a while afterwards, nothing too heavy but heavier than a normal period. I started taking my contraceptive pill the day I had the abortion, as instructed by the nurse. I then had a normal period 4 weeks after my abortion. All my symptoms of pregnancy dissappeared after the abortion. I have since had my periods on time and for the normal lengths since the abortion. However, last month I started to spot inbetween my periods, very little blood that did not require a pad but it would sometimes be brown too. There has been a slight tightness in my abdominal area, no pain. I could have put on weight and my bowel movements havent been so good, also I have been eating a lot of carbohydrates and unhealthy food recently. I would like to know if any of this is normal so long after the abortion?

At least some of your symptoms may be attributed to starting new birth control pills. Things such as spotting is very common during the first few months on the pills. Weight gain is sometimes reported as well, although this is unusual with the newer low dose pills that are usually prescribed. I am not aware of people reporting changes in their bowel movements or eating habits, so i am not sure where that comes from. However, you can be sure that you are not pregnant again, since you have been taking the pills regularly since the abortion. If these other symptoms persist, you should see your doctor. The symptoms that are due to the pills usually will resolve with time as yo get used to taking the pills. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions.
