Hi Guna. Thanks for Asking on HCM

Propysaclic NF ointment contains clobetasol propionate+salicylic acid. Its a potent steroid and prolonged use of it can lead to side effects like skin atrophy and hypopigmenation.

I would advice that you consult a dermatologist who would guide you properly about the side effects of prolonged use of steroids and might suggest you alternative medicines like Vitamin D analogues, Coal tar+salicylic acid ointment which are devoid of these side effects.

Withdrawing steroid ointment suddenly is also not recommended because it might cause disease flare. So your dermatologist might also discuss with you about how to gradually taper it.

Hypopigmenation due to steroid is a temporary side effects and will recover with time on its own once the steroid is withdrawn OR you can apply tacrolimus ointment for a faster recovery.
