Am I Having Folliculitis?

Hi i am having folliculitis all over my chest, hips, back, legs and arms from last four years. I was thinking that they are pimples due to hormonal changes. But one of my friend told me that they are Folliculitis. If they are folliculitis, i don t know whether they are Bacterial, Fungal or Malassezian Folliculitis. How they look like and wat are their effects are mentioned below. # They are red looking small pimples on hair roots. # Some have pus and some are only red. # I feel itching and hair loss by them over chest and scalp. # They leave black marks. # They look like boils on my forehead as they are red with pus in them. #I also have them on my Scalp with pus. PLEASE HELP ME I have not yet used any drug to cure them. Please provide me any Topical and oral medicine name so that i may completely get rid of them.

Hi.
I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

Folliculitis is generally caused by a bacterial (Staphylococcus) infection, fungal or virus infection or physical trauma to the follicle. Also sweat & chemicals in the cosmetics, skin-clogging substances (tar) causing irritation of the hair follicle.

I advice you to,
- Have one month course of an oral antibiotic (cephalexin or dicloxacillin).
-Have Clindamycin solution rub into scalp at night.
- swab sample of infected skin or hair is must

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
