90 Years. Severe Itchiness In Scalp, Back, Groin, Knee. History Of Skin Cancer, Impaired Kidneys And Aortic Aneurism. Test For Allergy, Scabies, Psoriasis Negative. Help

My mother is 90 years old, is very fair, has had a lot of sun exposure over the years and many skin cancers. She had surgery for an aortic aneurism about 5 years ago, is also a smoker, and has impaired kidneys. She has a dreadful itchiness from her scalp, across her back, around her groin area and then down almost to her knees. We have seen 2 skin specialists and taken her off some of medicines to see if she was allergic to any of them with no results. The itchiness leaves no marks on her skin and she feels as though things are crawling inside her. We have tested for allergies, scabies, psoriasis, dermatitis etc to no avail. It is driving her nuts and she cannot sleep

Welcome to HCM.Elderly patients usually have extremely dry skin which cannot retain moisture.Use of moisturisers after her bath with lukewarm water will help.Renal disease has been associated with itching and her kidney functions should be improved to prevent further problems with the itching.Use of antihistaminics like benadryl at bedtime will help.
