Hello,
If your father is having his diabetes under control at the moment, with use of TRIPRIDE,and if there are no side effects pertaining to this drug, then it is not worth to stop the medicine now.
He should be encouraged to follow a dietary control along with proper aerobic exercises, like walking, for 30 to 40 minutes a day.
He should avoid junk foods, sugary foods and colas.
If your father finds that his blood sugar levels are falling and creating problems and symptoms of hypoglycemia, then you may ask your doctor to reduce the dose of medicine. If no such thing happens, then there is no need to discontinue the drug.
He must control his blood pressure and serum lipid levels also along with proper control of blood sugar levels.
Don't stop the medicine of your own and must talk to your treating doctor for this.
Thanks

Diabetologist Dr. Pratap VGM's  Response
DEAR SIR/MADAM

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA BANNED THE DRUG PIOGLITAZONE, SO TRIPRIDE WAS EARLIER NOT CONSIDERED SAFE IN OLD AGED PATIENTS, SO STOP THE DRUG TRIPRIDE.

IF HIS KIDNEY FUNCTIONS ARE NORMAL, YOU CAN ADVICE HIM TO TAKE METFORMIN WITH GLIMEPERIDE COMBINATION, BUT DIET ALONE MAY NOT REGULATE HIS BLOOD SUGARS FOR A LONG TIME.

THANKS
