4 Yr Old Complaining Of Outer Ear Pain, No Visible Sores. Reasons ?

Hi. My 4 yr old son has been complaining of outter ear pain of both ears for several days now. This is the second time that this has occured within a 6 month period. We are scheduled to see the doctor in 2 days but can t help to wonder what this could be... I don t see any visable sores or anything but his ears do look a little red. His ears are sore to the touch & he has no inner ear pain. P lease help.

Your child could be suffering from otitis externa ie a furuncle(boil) in the external ears. Rule out any trauma though both sides together is unlikely. Give him a course of antibiotics and that should help. As it is your visit to your doctor is due and when you visit him, he should do a thorough examination of the ears also.
