3 Yr Old Has Fever For 5 Days, Gums Are Red And Swollen. Thoughts ?

My 3 year old has run a fever for 5 days, nothing else, just a fever. Took him to doctor and they checked him over thoroughly. My son does have a place around his gum that is extremely red and swollen( just one tooth ). Took to our family dentist and he wasn t sure. They have suggested a pediatric dentist now. Thoughts??

Hi,
Thank you for your query,
The fever looking like a Viral fever or due to a abscess around tooth (dental abscess) as there is gum swelling and redness.
Give Tylenol in prescribed dosage every 8 th hourly for fever and pain.
If there is dental abscess , it should be drained.
Consult Pediatric dentist for further examination and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Since your child is having fever for five days and there is associated with dental abscess.
I suggest you to give acetaminophen every 6 hourly for pain and fever and get him evaluated by pediatric dentist as he may need a course of antibiotic.
Give him plenty of fluids and soft diet.

Wishing your child good health.
God bless,

Dentist Dr. Bindiya Bhaskar's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.

The cause of occurence of gum infection has to be evaluated clinically.

If tooth is decayed, get it restored .

If pulp is infected,it has to be extirpated.

Take complete course of antibiotics-analgesics as per dentist's prescription.

Meanwhile,maintain oral hygiene well.

Gargle frequently with warm saline.

Take care.
