10 Month Old, Inner Ear Infection, Fever. Given Shots, Augmentin, Rashes Breaking Out. Right Medication?
my son was in the e.d with an inner ear infection and high fever (104*) just saTUrday night, he was given two different shots simultaneously...and given augmentin to take, after only two servings he is breaking out with a bad rash, we have stopped augmentin, but he is only 10 months old... and am worried for the rash...what to do?
Thank you for choosing HCM for your query. Will be glad to help.
As you mentioned that your child was diagnosed with an ear infection and had high fever and broke out in a rash after augmentin.
It seems like he might be allergic to augmentin and you did the right thing by stopping the medication. I would suggest that you take him to his pediatrician for his rash to be evaluated to confirm that it is a true allergy and also to get another antibiotic for his ear infection.
Also, if he is having any swelling in his tongue or puffiness around his eyes or seems to be having difficulty breathing or his rash is continuing to get worse, then he maybe suffering from a severe allergy to augmentin and should be taken to his doctor urgently without any delay. In the meantime you can give him benadryl en route to the hospital.
