What Type Of Specialist Treats Syphilis?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: Yes, i recently described my symptoms to my new doctor and he mentioned that I may have a sexually transmitted disease - syphilis and if so it is in the late latent stages. I would like to see a doctor who specializes in this area because over the years i have seen several doctors and submitted to numerous blood test yet I have never been told this before now. He recomends that i see a neurologist. Is this the correct type of doctor to help me as all my research indicates that is difficult to diagnose this disease. Please help! I need help from a qualified physican. Can you shed any light on this situation?

Brief Answer:
STDs (Syphilis) easy to be diagnosed and treat.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

STDs (especially Syphilis) are not difficult to diagnose or to treat for a physician who is expert in the field. Treatment guidelines are modified and circulated every year by CDC,Atlanta.
Your previous blood tests would not have included a test for Syphilis and therefore it would have missed to get diagnosed.
Syphilis can affect any part of our body as it is a chronic and systemic disease. If your physician feels that you have to meet a Neurologist, then he would have suspected something pertained to neurology and wanted to rule out this possibility by a neurologist. So follow the guidance of your physician.

Brief Answer:
Infectious disease specialist will help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
It depends upon the countries. A Dermato-venereologist or a Genito-urinary physician are the ideal physicians to treat this. In your country (USA) Infectious diseases specialist or an internal Medicine specialist will help you in this regards.
Get well soon.
