What Is The Life Expectancy Of Someone With Advanced Colon Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Jun 2017
Question: My 88-year old father was just diagnosed with advanced colon cancer that has spread to his liver. He is anemic, diabetic, has heart issues (a-fib), and is in overall poor health. We can't get in to see the oncologist until Tuesday and am curious. Treatments? Options? Life expectancy if he forgoes treatment? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
He probably has 6-12months to live!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. I am so sorry to hear about this advanced cancer that he has.

The main treatment plan at this time is chemotherapy. However, the prognosis of this condition isn’t the best. Even with the current treatment, we may be looking at 6-12months as the life expectancy.

This can be difficult for you and the entire family. However, stay positive, follow through with medical care and recommendations. At the end of the day, ensure that he has the social support, love and care.

I hope this sheds some lights and provide responses to you. I wish you well and the best of possible outcome given this diagnosis.
