Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: I was given a sample bottle of Mobic 15mg 30 tabs on 1-7-2015 for Severe disk degeneration of the lower spine. Peridiskal sclerosis & spur formation. Kyphosis of the lower cervical spine, but no fracture or acute bony abnormality was seen from X-Ray
Severe degenerative disk disease, Cervical Spine. Evidence of increased lordosis is noted. (Impression from the interpreting Radiologist) I am still taking (2) tabs of 325mg of Brand Tylenol for pain every 5 to 6 hrs. How long will it take for the Mobic to start working & can I take something else besides Tylenol for my pain.
along with the Mobic & should I start with 7.5 mg of Mobic instead of 15mg as the FDA indicates?

Brief Answer:
Glucosamine and diacerine will be of benefit along with Tylenol and Mobic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern. You are having degenerative spine disease and it is common in your age.You are taking two tablets of Tylenol 325mg every 6hours it is OK. Mobic (Meloxicam) start working within half an hour of taking. Mean Cmax was achieved within four to five hours after a 7.5 mg meloxicam tablet (means maximum effect is at 4-5 hours after taking it). Steady-state plasma concentrations are achieved within 3—5 days.I think you should start with 7.5 mg daily as it is recommended dose.
Along with Tylenol and Mobic you can take Diacerine and glucosamine as these drugs prevent and repair degenerative changes to some extend.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
