Question: I have a problem with excessive sweating where I actually have to change my clothes because they are all wet. I can be doing nothing and the water will just start pouring out of me. This isn't just once a day it happens it's several times a day. I am 66 Years old 5'2" and overweight at 209 lbs I can diet all I want and still not take the weight off. I take Atenolol for blood pressure and Simvastatin for Cholesterol. Just sitting here typing this I am starting to sweat. I don't notice any other symtems with it. I have pain between my shoulder blades but that is from just chronic pain. This started about a year ago and is getting worse. I hate it. Can you help me figure out what is wrong my thyroid reading was 7.8 on my last blood tests in May.

Brief Answer:
Hi

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
Noted your case history and thyroid reports.
Is that TSH which is 7,8 ? Are you on any thyroxine replacement or any other hormones replacement?

Sweating in excess could be due to post menopausal hormonal changes ( rarely, it can last several years after menopause). Hyperthyroidism is another condition which can cause excess sweating. Could you attach the thyroid blood work reports?

Binu

I had menopause when I was in my fortys had a hysterectomy when I was in my 30's This is nothing like menopause the water just runs off of me It.s like someond threw a bucket of water over me. The doctor said I didn't need medication because I was within the range. I always have it checked because my sister has thyroid problems and is on medication. Some people say it could be my heart is that possible

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be related to heart

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
I understood your concern regarding sweating and heart disease. The pattern of Sweating associated with heart disease is often associated with exertion like climbing uphill etc. However, at this age, it may be good to get a stress test ( TMT) done.

There are few other hormone conditions associated with excess adrenaline secretion which can cause sweating. But even that is episodic rather than continuous.

Brief Answer:
General guidelines

Detailed Answer:

Good day,
We do have effective treatment for localized excess sweating ( palms, soles etc). However, for excess sweating all over the body, these modalities may not be very effective.
Antiperspirant sprays ( not deodorant) are useful. Avoid tight clothes as well as synthetic fibers and try to use cotton clothes

MAy I direct you the following website for information ?

Since there is no thyroid over activity, I would strongly consider post menopausal hormone changes as the main cause of your symptoms.
Anxiety might contribute as well
