Liver cirrhosis is classified using a system/criteria called Child-Pugh classification.
It is based on assessment of levels of (a)bilirubin,
(b)albumin levels- a protein in the body,
(c)PT -if prolonged indicating bleeding risk
(d)presence of encephalopathy- disease or damage of the brain
(e)presence of ascites- fluid collection in the abdomen
Based on the range of the bilirubin, albumin or PT or the presence of ascites or encephalopathy (and severity if present) , a person is given a score for each one eg a PT of less than 4 is given one point, 4 to 6 , 2 points and more than 6, three points.
If ascites is not present- 1 point, if present but mild- 2 points, if severe then three points
The classification is given online
Based on the total score, a person can be said to have a Child classification of A (if total score less than 7), Child B if score is 7 to 9 and child class c if the score is greater than 9
The child A liver cirrhosis means the person has a Child pugh classification of A, their total score was less than 7.
