What Does This Stool Test Report Indicate?

Question: Hi,
My baby is 2months old.Today he passed watery stool for the first time (only once).He has been taking iron supplements since 15 days.He is formula fed.I had given his stool for stool test.Report result is as below - XXXXXXX blood - nil
Reaction - acidic
Mucus - present
RBC - nil/hpf
Pus cell - 02-03/hpf
Fat globules - nil
Bacteria - Increased, Yeast (+)
Macrophages - nil
Vegetable cells - present (+)
Round worm ova - nil
Pin worm ova - nil
Hook worm ova - nil
Larva of strongyloid - nil
EH cyst/veg form - nil
Giardia cyst/Trophozoite - nil.

Is the report normal or there is something to worry ?

I have gone carefully through your query and have checked the report. The number of pus cells is not raised and so it does not indicate the presence of a bacterial infection (presence of bacteria does not matter). So, it can be a simple viral diarrhea or it is something of no concern as a child of this age can pass stool 10 times a day (or even once in 10 days). You need to give increased amount of breast feed or ORS (oral rehydration solution) to make up for the lost water and salts. If the frequency of passage of stool is more than 6-8 times in 24 hours, it is not a cause for concern.
