Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: I am on the pill and my boyfriend and I have unprotected sex. We had sex for a few days before my period started. The day before I was supposed to start, after sex I wiped I had orangeish-pink on the towel. What could this mean?

Brief Answer:
YOU ARE PREGNANCY SAFE.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
The fact that you have been on oc pills regularly in the past cycle , even if you had unprotected sex, you would still be pregnancy safe simply because oc pills would have avoided ovulation and in absence of ovum, there are no chances of fertilisation. Secondly if you would have been pregnant, then you would have missed your menses completely, which you didn't so the endometrium from previous cycle was completely shed and pregnancy was indirectly ruled out.
The orangish pink stain that you saw a day prior to onset of menses is often commonly seen and marks the onset of menses and indicates the start of progesterone withdrawal, so rest assured that you are not pregnant.
