What Does My Ultrasound Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: What might it mean when we get an ultrasound report that states: minimal prominence of the right intrarenal collecting system that has developed since last exam, 12/14, No calculus are evident. Further evaluation with CT IVP. This patient has had three kidney stones over the years with the last one being 12/14. Previous left hydronephrosis has resolved.

Brief Answer:
Needs urgent evalutation

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The fact that there is prominence of the intrarenal system suggests that the right ureter is blocked, usg is not a very good modality to note stones, some stones are missed on the ultrasound.

Since the creatinine has jumped I suggest you to get a plain CT KUB first, contrast at this point could be toxic to the kidneys. I also suggest you to stop taking Lisinopril as it is contraindicated in acute kidney injurt ( rise of creat from 1.7 to 2.0).

If I were to be your doctor I would get a plain CT KUB first followed by cystourethrography instead of CT IVP to see for stones and removal of it in the same setting

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
