Brief Answer:
Have a FNAC test done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

There are approximately 300 lymph nodes in the neck.
They may get enlarged due to a number of different conditions including tumours, infection and inflammation in the head and neck.

In case of infection or inflammation, they may get enlarged but may not regress to their original size even after the infection/inflammation subsides.

In case of infection of inflammation, the lymph node is painful XXXXXXX not fixed to surrounding structures and soft or firm on touch.

In case of a malignant tumor, the lymph node enlargement is hard on touch,non-painful,non-mobile and fixed to surrounding structures.

In case of reactionary enlargement of lymph node after infection or inflammation, the enlargement is usullay less than 1 cm in size,non-painful,soft or firm on touch XXXXXXX and not attached to the surrounding structures.

USG(Ultrasonography) will help in gaining the information about the cause of lymph node enlargement.

But it would be advisable to confirm the cause of lymph node enlargement by a pathological test called Fine needle aspiration cytology.

And then consult an ENT Specialist Doctor for examination of your head and neck to find any source of lymph node enlargement like Infection ,inflammation or tumor.

Hope this answers your question.I would be happy to answer you in case of any further questions.Take care.

Brief Answer:
Yes,Lymph node may be easier to palpate if you are slim

Detailed Answer:
Hi,thank you for your follow-up question.

As told by your doctor, lymph node may be easier to palpate in case of slim people like you, even if there is no infection/inflammation or tumor in the head and neck.

Yes,by doing ultrasonography of neck, one can find out whether the cause of lymph node enlargement is malignant or not.

As described by you,it seems not to worry about.

Only if the lymph node enlargement becomes more than 1 cm or painful or hard or fixed and non-moving,then you may have the pathological test -fine needle aspiration cytology ,as described above.

So,right now,you relax.No need to worry.

Take care.

Ok so I should be reassured by the ultrasound ? They said it was normal lymph glands and nothing sinister but I can still feel it so I don't know if it's just normal for me I don't have any others or any other symptoms and it hasn't got bigger just the same size
