What Does My Test Result Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Oct 2014
Question: Recent tests came back gram stain rare polymorphonuclear leukocytes as well as rare mononuclear cells. GFR estimated at 58, above high RDW with normal MCV, and calcium 10.3 above high normal. What does all this mean? I'm always exhausted and I need a diagnosis or at least further questions I can ask a primary physician. Thank you for any information or explanation you can provide.

Brief Answer:
You may have chronic kidney disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your RDW is high with normal MCV. It suggest two possibilities. Either you have normal hemoglobin and size of rbc is normal or you may have microcytic and macrocytic rbcs so average size is normal. You should go for hemoglobin level and if it is low then you should go for peripherals smear examination.

Your calcium level is normal.
Few polymophs and lymphocytes are normal in gram stain does not need concern.

Now your main problem is estimated GFR. It measures your kidney function and it depends on creatine level, age, body weight, race etc. It should be more than 90. Your estimated GFR is below 60 suggest you have some chronic kidney disease. You should go for complete kidney function test and ultrasound abdomen for kidney.
Consult your doctor investigate further and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer.
