Posted on Fri, 31 Oct 2014
Question: Hi .. I went for IUI since I was having low sperm motility. But the day I provided my semen sample for IUI , it was so bad that the doctor advised to go for IVF instead. Below is my semen analysis report :

Volume of Sample : 1 ml
Ph of sample : 7
Pus Cells 8-10 / hpf
Progressive Motility - 0
Non Progressive - 1
Immotile Spermatozoa - 99
Sperm Concentration 50 million/ml
Morphology (Percent of Normal Sperm) - 10

Please advice , what should be the next steps I should take.

Brief Answer:
FIRST HAVE AN EVALUATION THEN DECIDE

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Frankly motile sperms in your sample are almost zero, that will make fertility almost impossible.
You should repeat the sample after 3 days abstinence.
Have a complete internal exam by an XXXXXXX hormonal tests and scrotal ultrasound scan.
Common causes for such a picture can be - stress, ageing, chromosomal defects, smoking, drinking, toxins, heat, radiation, obesity, hormonal deficiency, infection, blockage of ducts etc.
Depending on the cause, treatment varies = some causes are treatable and some are not.
If there is no particular treatment available after evaluation, then yes, the best option is IVF for you.
All the best

Brief Answer:
MEDICATIONS ARE OKAY

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Thank you for the appreciation.
Yes, the medications are fine.
They contain antioxidants and positive hormones for good support to growing sperm.
Please take them as directed, and then repeat the semen analysis.
Meanwhile having an opinion from an XXXXXXX and getting the workup done as suggested is a good idea.
Please exercise daily and eat healthy.
Avoid smoking, drinking, stress, late nights and tobacco in any form.
Do keep me posted on any further issues.
Wish you lots of good health.
Take care.
