What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: My IVF doctor requested a blood test to check my Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) levels. She requested the test on the 16/03/2015, I gave a blood sample on the 23/03/2015 3:21PM, the blood sample was received by pathology on 23/03/2015 3:44PM, but the result was not reported by pathology until the 06/04/2015 6:47PM...which is 15days after I gave the blood sample...

The result was AMH level of 5.8 pmol/L, which indicates Low Ovarian Reserve...

My question is could this result of 5.8 pmol/L be incorrect due to my blood being tested 15 days after I gave the blood sample? Does a blood sample need to be tested within a certain timeframe for the blood results to be viable?

I add that I was 27 years old at the time of testing.

Brief Answer:
Possible wrong report

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about low AMH levels.

Generally the laboratory waits till many samples are collected and then run it on one day.

15 days is long for the blood to be kept. The report could be wrong.

Please get it tested again. Request your doctor to correlate with Antral Follicle Count to check number of follicles.

After my AMH result, I decided to go with another IVF specialist...upon intial consult my IVF doctor requested a range of blood tests...I've uploaded the test results for you...

I'd like to know what you think of these test results...

I tested positive to TPO and Tg antibodies...I know they are within the normal range...but if antibodies are present isnt this in response to antigens of TPO and Tg? Please explain.

Also my SHBG is high at 176 nmol/l.

Brief Answer:
Normal reports overall

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I saw attached reports.

SHBG is not a matter of concerns as your androgen and other hormones are under normal limits. There is nothing to worry about it.

You have been tested positive for IgG for varicella zoster which means you have antibodies against it and there is nothing to worry as IgM is not positive.

You also have mild urine infection. Ignore if you have no symptoms of urine infection. Drink plenty of water.

Overall there is nothing to worry about in these reports.

Are there any known blood type incompatibilities between couples that may result in the inability to concieve? Im O negative and my partner is A positive...

Is there any proven facts that suggest such a thing?

Is there any findings that suggest the general fertility in A positive men? Eg: known to have low sperm count etc?

Brief Answer:
No proven problems

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Blood group incompatibility does not lead to problems in conceiving.

It is not known that any blood group is associated with particular semen abnormalities

I've attached my transvaginal ultrasound pictures...

I've circled in yellow the images I'm wanting to know more about ... eg: a description of what the image is - a mass? bone? what etc?

Brief Answer:
Normal images

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your attached images show normal uterus with normal blood flow patterns. There are bowel ( intestine) shadows in the images which are normal.

Your endometrium is seen and thickness is good. Your ovary shows 3 follicles which are good.

I dont see any mass, bone etc.. to worry about. Everything looks well.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

I had a transvaginal (internal) ultrasound...so with this in mind, does this make my uterus behind or above my intestine?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Mahesh Koregol (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Even with transvaginal ultrasound scan the intestines can be behind as well as below the uterus but not above.

Your ultrasound scan report shows the same and is normal.
