Question: Hi Doctor,
I have done a kidney and liver function test 2 days back and I got the result today. I have attached the result with this. I am very concerned about some factors like "Total Bilirubin", "Direct Bilirubin" and "Uric Acid". Is there anything to worry as the values are little higher. Could you please look into this and tell your view.
Thanks,
XXXX

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your reports.
The total and direct bilirubin levels are marginally raised. This can be raised to mild infection state involving the liver. It is important to know the clinical symptoms for which you consulted your doctor and any medications that you are taking recently. You may be suffering from any mild infection which is causing increased destruction of red blood cells in the liver. This may not be a serious condition and will soon return to normal in a few days time.
Uric acid is also marginally raised may be caused by a diet high in purines or by impaired excretion by the kidneys. Your uric acid levels need not necessarily indicate any disease though it can usually indicate hypertension or gout.
I suggest you get an ultrasound scan abdomen to evaluate liver and kidneys.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
