What Does A Earache Indicate Despite Being On Cold Medication?
Question: 6 year old grandson woke with pain in both ears. he has had a cough for a few days but that was getting better. the only thing he has been given is cough medicine at night.

From the symptoms you describe, your grandson has possible Otitis media ( ear infection).This happens often after a uper respiratory tract infection..
If the pain last more then 48 hours, the paim gets worse , the child has fever, these indicates bacterial infection and treatment with antibiotic is needed.
I would recommend to take him to the local doctor so the doctor can examine his ears , throat , lungs..from the result of physical examinations will be decided the need of antibiotics and follow up.
Meanwhile:
-Advice him to drink planty of fluid.
-Take paracetamol/ 250 mg every 4 hours for the pain ( make sure he is not allergic first ).
-when he sleeps, his head should be higher then the body ( use 2 pillows) .
