What Does A Bulging Vein From Mid Forearm To Thumb Indictae?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Apr 2015
Question: Woke 5 days ago, Tue, with bulging vein running from mid forearm to thumb. Throbbing. Watched it all day and it seemed to enlarge and go down. This went on til Sat when I noticed the veins in my feet and ankles were also doing this as well as both hands and forearms. This as well seems to come and go. I've had some strange pains that are not confined to one area and not constant. Temporal lobes, forearms, legs, shoulder. No edema noted. No red areas noted. No ulcers noted. No loss of ROM. No fever or fatigue. No coughing or SOB. Achey feeling in overall comes and goes. Hands and feet get super cold and burn at times. Saw an MD and chest xray was clear. She ran blood work but no results. She said she wasn't concerned at all...well I am! I do take a Beta Blocker for Tacky Cardia which is under control. Very low Vitamin B 12 and D. Stress is a big factor but I don't think this causes vein bulging. Dr mentioned possible autoimmune or thoracic outlet. I'm not satisfied with the discussion with her. Can you help?

Brief Answer:
Visit hospital for Consultant Surgeon or Medical Specialist for workup

Detailed Answer:
hello

thank you for the follow up query.

First of all its very very unlikely to be cancer so you should relax and stop thinking for such diseases. Multiple diseases presents with similar symptoms. Its job of a doctor to correlate it correctly and reach a definitive diagnosis with the help of some investigations. I would suggest you not to go deep by surfing from internet. It will only make you stressed. I would suggest you to visit hospital and get an appointment for a Consultant surgeon or Medical Specialist for work-up. They will take detailed history, examine you thoroughly and will order some investigations like CBC, Ultrasound leg (to rule out DVT) and may go for biopsy of vein to confirm diagnosis. Treatment will depend upon the results from above mentioned things. So the best thing at this point for you will be to get an appointment for a Consultant Surgeon or Medical Specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it. I'll be available 24/7 for if you need any guidance.

Wishing you good health !!

I saw an MD today. CBC normal, Metabolic panel normal. Waiting on ANA, RA panel and Sed Rate. Chest xray normal. He thinks the temple pain is Arteritis because of the pain. It's mainly in my left temple but does hit my right occasionally. He says because I'm having vein issues in both legs, temple, chest , arms and feet it's Migratory Superficial Thrombophlebitis or phelbitis. This is without all blood work back. What is this? What causes this and is it treatable? The veins seems to enlarge and decrease often. The left wrist vein that bulged first seems to stay more often then go. Holding things in my left wrist can be a little uncomfortable. I do have varicose veins and spider veins in my legs. While waiting on rest of blood work I'm taking 800mg of Motrin and 10mg of prednisone for pain. I also take my beta blocker. Do I need to start on a blood thinner?? I don't want to throw a clot and die. :( The Dr today said no to the blood thinner but if it's not flowing properly why not do something. These temple pains hurt and are scary. How do I reduce inflammation? Please try to answer my questions. I haven't slept and I can't concentrate because of the worry. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
please see description

Detailed Answer:
hello

thank you for the followup query.

First and MOST IMPORTANT thing to do is RELAX. I mentioned earlier that stress and anxiety almost always aggravates the problem. Inflammation of vessels takes time to recover. With appropriate antibiotic and steroid therapy it usually resolves. At the moment you do NOT need blood thinners. Varicose veins occurs because of incompetent valves in venous channels of legs. Its treatment is surgery. You need to consult a general surgeon for varicose vein. Your treating MD is awaiting autoimmune lab results (ANA, etc) which is correct thing. There are a number of risk factors for Superficial Thrombophlebitis. Most common include:
- varicose veins
- smoking
- obesity
- hormone induced
- drug induced

The prognosis in superficial thrombophlebitis is usually good. Once again i would suggest you to relax and wait for the lab results. Your treating doctor will then start you on medication. Meanwhile you can take surgical opinion regarding varicose veins from a general surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it. I'll be available 24/7 for if you need any guidance.

Wishing you good health !!
