Question: Hi Doctor,
My father in law was having cough and sputum two months back. He had taken Augmentin 625 and allegra M. He had some relief after that but, he is having fever since last month. It is not continuous. In the morning, body temperature is normal but fever comes in the evening around 99.2

He is having a little sore throat currently as well.
He had undergone many tests till now. I am attaching all the prescriptions and tests done till now. Please advise what could be the probable cause for this.

Regards,

Brief Answer:
Get done PFT and screening CT scan of thorax.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the prescriptions and reports you have attached.
Probable causes for his illness are chronic bronchitis and lung infection (tuberculosis).
In my opinion, he should get done
1. PFT (pulmonary function test)
2. Screening CT thorax.
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only. He might need inhaled treatment which is decided on PFT report.
CT chest is needed to rule out any lung infection like tuberculosis. See, chest x ray is not always confirmatory. You can miss diagnosis on chest x ray. Since he is not improving, it is better to go for CT thorax. CT scan is far superior than chest x ray is terms of diagnosis.
So get done PFT and CT thorax.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your father in law. Thanks.
