Posted on Tue, 2 Aug 2016
Question: My Wife(33 Yrs Old) and married since 6 years has a confirmed pregnancy. Beta HCG test was 2899.25 mIU//mL and her last menstruation period was 25 May 2016. Doctor has confirmed pregnancy on 08 July 2016 and said the fetus is around 6 weeks old. But on 10 July 2016 evening she had a bleeding burst lasted for 1 hour . We went to ER and they it is just bleeding and no clots seen and suggested to have Susten 200mg injection and advised complete bed rest. Also suggested to undergo Early pregnancy ultrasound scan. We did the scan as well. Attached are the Beta HCG and Scan reports. We consulted the doctor post scan and suggested to have Susten 400mg twice daily for 2 weeks and to rescan after that. This to be taken thru vagina. We are expecting first child and we are scared a bit now. Please diagnose and suggest your thoughts.

Brief Answer:
Not a good state of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your anxiety about the issue.
I have seen the attached report and want to tell you the exact situation false hopes that this pregnancy is not going to sustain and result in healthy issue.
The large sub chorionic haemorrhage and absence of fetal pole is not a good sign.
Still take the tablets as advised along with rest and get a repeat scan after 1 week.
Let's hope for good but don't get stressed
All the best

Dr Manisha

Bleeding has stopped by today morning. She had a small quantity of Brownish discharge only by evening 11 July 2016. I googled and saw that fetal pole development can be clearly seen by 7th week. Is my understanding correct? How this sub chorionic haemorrhage can be corrected?

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be a good prognosis

Detailed Answer:
You are right that it can take 7 weeks but mostly is well developed before 6 weeks and the presence of large subchorionic hemorrhage complicates the situation further.
Many a times if fetal pole is normal with cardiac activity then subchorionic hemorrhage gets absorbed by itself but in your case things are not very favourable.
Still since there are chances (though minimal) it's worth to wait for a week and take all the supporting medicines.

She is having a brownish discharge(small amount) today evening. I have googled and see that it is very common among pregnant women as discharge is result of uterus getting expanded. Is this correct? I totally agree with you that we have to wait till a week or two to get the exact picture. Just curious to know on the above question.

Brief Answer:
Sequel to previous bleeding

Detailed Answer:
This brownish discharge is just a collected blood coming out of uterus as a sequel to previous bleeding episode and if everything stays fine without fresh bleeding then nothing to to worry and a repeat scan will be the deciding factor.
