What Do My CT Scan And Ultrasound Upper Endoscopy Test Reports Indicate?

Question: On April 10, 2015 I had all my remaining teeth extracted in preparation for dental implants. When I left the dentist that day I was bleeding profusely.

On May 1, 2015 I became ill at work and left early. After suffering severe abdominal pain all weekend I went to the emergency room at Sumner Regional Medical Center on May 4, 2015. I had blood work, an exam, and a CAT Scan. They gave me pain medication and sent me home.

On Wednesday May 6, 2015 after toughing it out at home (Pain Medication did not help) I could not take the pain anymore and returned to the emergency room at Sumner Regional Medical Center experiencing even more pain. The ER again ran blood work, performed a CAT Scan and examined me. My ER Doctor told me the two CAT Scans showed a serious life threatening problem.

I was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center for emergency exploratory surgery. The Vanderbilt Medical Center doctor told me the CAT Scans showed gas migrating from the inside of my small bowel into my abdomen. They did not expect me to survive the surgery. However, the surgery showed nothing wrong.

Over the next few days Surgeons and "Blood" doctors looked closer at the CAT Scans and found a blood clot in a vein of my pancreas near the apparent damage displayed on the CAT Scans. I was placed on blood thinners and sent home.

On Monday XXXXXXX 29, 2015 Vanderbilt Medical Center performed an Ultrasound Upper Endoscopy. This also showed nothing abnormal.

My question is. Could a blood clot have been formed during my extensive oral surgery on April 10, 2015 and travel to where they found it in a vein in my Pancreas?

Brief Answer:
Chances of blood clot from oral surgery is less likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have gone through dental surgery. There are many other complications of dental surgery but chances of clot formation in pancreatic vein is less likely. Rarely it can occur.

You may have some tendency of clot formation. You should take blood thinner like warferrin according to your doctor's advice.

You should go for thrombophilia profile. Because venous thrombosis with out risk of clotting tendency is very uncommon.

So go for thrombophilia profile to search the cause and avoid further thrombosis in other vein. Continue your blood thinner and regularly monitor your PT with INR.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
