What Do Elevated LDL Levels Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Sep 2016
Question: Hi,
Lately I have had constant heartbeats so loud at night that I cannot fall asleep. I am 83 and female, no BP problems and only slightly elevated LDL otherwise cholesterol fine. There are no health issues of which I am aware, but this is a very disturbing problem. In the past the pounding came and went, and actually the sound of the beat felt as if it were OUTSIDE my body and it had a mechanical quality. As I sit here and type the heartbeat is still persisting. My ears do feel as if there is some pressure inside. This has gone on for several weeks. When there is noise around me it drowns out the sound or at least it is less noticeable. When I am lying down it seems to be worse. The only other health aspects for me that are troubling have to do with allergies, and concurrent sinus issues. I live in rural Oregon and allergies are far from rare. Normally I would consult my PC physician, but he has moved out of state and am still looking for a new doctor. What can I do without being able to access a doctor?

Brief Answer:
Beta blockers like metoprolol should provide relief.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. You need to be clinically evaluated for your palpitations. An EKG and a echocardiogram also need to be done for the assessment. Your thyroid profile needs to be checked too. As such, treatment with beta blockers like metoprolol should provide relief. But a number of factors need to be kept in consideration.

Hormone depletion could also play a role.

Feel free to write back.

Regards
