Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014
Question: Hi, I am a 74 yr old woman who was had cancer in 1970, had two surgeries and 6 weeks of radition and second sugery they found nothing and i was cancer free for 36 years. Then in 2009 I had not been feeling good adn they found a tumor on my bile duct. I refused chemo and went on alot of supplements and chnaged my diet drastically. The tumor dissappeared. I am doing very well with my last ca125 at 74, the highest being 211 in 2011. I also have GAD and have had it most of my life. I recently went to another Doctyoe who is treating me with supplements and other treatments. Just in the last few weeks I have noticed I become weak sometimes, and sometimes I am not hungry, but eat well and have lost only a few pounds in the last year. I am worrying I might be dying and it is scary although I don not have any pain,
I do not know if it is just anxiety because I see so many women who do not make it. I have been to my local Doctor and she seems to think my problem is nervous exhastion over worry, as my numbers are stable and liver functions are normal. I do have a bilary permanant stent, as it was needed when I first got sick and was jaundiced, as soon as it was put in, I was fine. So should I be worrying excessively, it is controlling my live and everything I do. Thank you

Brief Answer:
No worries, be positive, you are OK

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I do understand recent symptoms you are experiencing like feeling weak, mild weight loss and considering your medical history could make you worry.

The good news however is that you really have not to worry for two main reasons. You are ok and know from insight you are ok. It is encouraging that your CA 125 levels are on the good side, liver function tests are within normal limits.

It might be of interest however to check for anemia, get a blood screen for electrolyte abnormalities like low Calcium or magnesium. Over all, the general state of health of an individual is strongly controlled by hi or her psychological status.

I am buying entirely the opinion of your doctor, who in my opinion, appreciates the importance of the psychological component as I do. I really feel you are simple being over nervous or too worried. I encourage you to stay positive and continue getting regular controls. You need not bother stay positive and feel free asking any follow up questions in case you got any specific concerns.

Kind regards

Dr Bain
