What Causes Watery Vaginal Discharge After A Radical Hysterectomy?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: Hello, I am 8 and a half weeks post op robotic radical hysterectomy surgery. I was released for sex. Two days after relations with my husband, I 've noticed that my vagina seems to be producing a heavy watery discharge. Enough that I've had to wear a pad. This sensation and feeling is much different than the small amount of discharge I noticed from previous weeks and healing. I'm scared because when my doctor performed my hysterectomy, he also repaired a small prolaspse in my bladder and used a sling. I'm hoping my surgery wasn't compromised. There is no odor, blood, or color- just looks like water. Could it be that my vagina is still healing and the sex irritated it enough to produce water?

Brief Answer:
Atleast 3 months of time required for vagina to heal properly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Heavy watery discharge after robotic radical hysterectomy surgery is very common and it takes about 12 weeks of time for the vagina to heal properly and sometimes sexual irritation can produce such water.

Since the discharge is not having blood or odor there is nothing to worry and the watery discharge will automatically stop after 3 months of time.

Since your proloapse in your bladder was repaired also during the hysterectomy surgery i would advise you to do a ultrasonography of whole abdomen.
