Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2014
Question: My 96 yr old father was diagnosed with stomach problems & MS indicated his stomach produces a lot of acid & given Omeprazole. When asked why he seems to have stomach problems & some vomiting, was informed he has Chron's disease?; and basically nothing can be done. Except for Omeprazole, no other medication given due to his age?. He has started vomiting gold-color vomit at least once a month, he also sounds like he gargles when sleeping. Is there anything that can be done for the vomiting?, it seems to be getting more and more frequent.

Brief Answer:
For vomiting - take antiemetics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr. Prakash and I would like to answer your query.
Acidity in stomach due to increased production of acid will be reduced by omeprazole.
Was any tissue taken from stomach and sent for biopsy histopathology report? As only endoscopic confirmation of an ulcer is done, confirmation is necessary. If you have any report kindly attach.

You can reduce vomiting by adding anti emetic drugs to the combination with omeprazole. It reduces vomiting risk. You can take dopamine antagonists for it twice daily and you can take prescription from your doctor.

If he has stomach pain, he can take antacids.

Regular timely diet is essential. Avoid spicy or your diet.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
