What Causes Tingling Sensation On Scalp With Dizziness And Numb Spots On Head?

default
Posted on Sat, 13 Sep 2014
Question: Hi. I've been having these strange numb-like and tingling/itchy sensations on my scalp. In addition, sometimes it feels like water dripping or gushing inside my head under the numb spots. They happen randomly and aren't relieved by scratching or anything. It's been going on for a while (few weeks). and is really starting to worry/bother me. I had an MRI/MRA a few weeks ago for dizziness (which I'm still having) and it was "OK." I was not yet having the numb sensations at the time of the MRI. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Not something serious.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and the fact that you had a normal MRI brain recently. This rules out any serious neurological disease such as multiple sclerosis, infections, stroke, brain tumor, etc.

At this stage, the symptoms are likely to be due to involvement of nerves in the scalp. This could occur due to vitamin B12 deficiency or mechanical compression of the skin nerves.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

What does mechanical compression of the skin nerves mean? Can you make a guess as to which nerves could be involved in that? I've had other strange symptoms lately as well. weakness in my arm, and sharp pinching pains in my chest. a cardiologist has said that those symptoms are not cardiac related. What kind of doctor would I see to diagnose a nerve issue? Did I mention that occasionally the scalp numbness and to going itch also feels like water on my scalp - maybe on the inside or outside.. it's a strange sensation. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Need to consult a Neurologist.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Mechanical compression refers to the direct compression of the skin, as would happen while sleeping, wearing a helmet, etc.

The scalp nerves that could cause these symptoms are occipital and trigeminal nerves.

If symptoms persist, you may consult a Neurologist.

The sensations arise and disappear without any cause. I'll just be standing there or laying down anfmd it happens.

Brief Answer:
Nerve-related symptoms can occur like that

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Nerve-related symptoms are known to be episodic and may last only a few seconds too. There is no need to worry about that.

Hi! The neurologist that I saw suspects the occipital nerve and some nerve in my back that comes from my spine to be causing my cheat pain symptoms. I had an EMG and blood tests drawn. I do have a question regarding the EMG. I have a bruise with a bullseye like ring around it where they either poked me or shocked me. its on my inner upper arm. I've attached a photo. Is that normal? I've never had a bruise with the bullseye circle around it..?? thanks!

Brief Answer:
Minor bleeding may occur.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I agree with your neurologist.

Yes, bleeding in the skin and adjacent tissue may occur causing the appearance as in the photo sent by you.

There is no need to worry as it would go away in a few days.
