What Causes Tingling And Numbness In Feet?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I am 72 year old male still very active, take no medications and been a life long athlette. I have always tied my tennis shoes quite tight and played tennis and basketball for many years, now only tennis even with 50 year olds. Question is about my feet that look quite normal, but have a sort of tingly and nummy feeling in both of my feet. No pain or other issues, but this feeling does not seem right. No diabetes or gout, etc. What could be causing the feeling and what to do about it? Maybe see a podiatrist? Hope my description of feeling is helpful!

Brief Answer:
Could be Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Usually tying the shoes right can cause Tarsal tunnel syndrome, where the nerve in the foot may get compressed and cause tingling or numbness.

It is advisable to keep the limb elevated. Apply hot packs to the affected area. You can also dip your feet and XXXXXXX in a container with XXXXXXX warm water with added salt to clear oedema.

Do tie your laces just right and not too tight. Do regular warm up exercise.

You can consult with a Foot and Ankle surgeon in your area.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
