What Causes Thyroid Inflammation After Child Birth?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Apr 2016
Question: Hi there, ever since I had my third baby 1.5 years ago, I have been experiencing swelling under my eyes. It lessens during the day, but never goes away completely. Even when eating gluten grain free, sugar fee, totally clean, it is still there. I haven't had alcohol in 10 years, nor caffeine. I don't smoke. I'm 39 tears old. Immediately post natal, my face looked totally norMal for a few weeks and then suddenly the bags appeared. it has been very severe most of the time making me want to stay inside. I have never experienced this extreme of under eye swelling. In the past, I have had puffiness in my face from foods, hormones etc. and that, too, is/was very annoying. But it goes away completely when pregnant which is amazing, and then seemed better after my first two boys. My third was a girl! After my 2nd, I had a bout of hives. I wondered if the bags were allergies what would reduce them. I've tried Benadryl and Zyrtec. Nothing. I don't have itchiness or sneezing etc. some occasional watery XXXXXXX at night. Mostly, I wake and hate to go to the mirror because there is a crease and big bags. And even worse if I decide to break my clean eating. I'm 110lbs on a heavy day. I have Grave's disease but whether levels are top of range or mid range, bags persist. Bags have never accompanied my Grave's in the past. After babies, I also have more thyroid inflammation overall. I'Be started a Parasite and Digestive Cleanse to prep for a Candida Cleanse then Kidney and Kiver Ckeanse and Flush and Metaks Be Gone Cleanse hoping it all helps. But I was curious about any theories.

Diagnosis & specific treatment with expert advise/ personal care would help

Detailed Answer:
Hi statchyhowland,

Thanks for the query through health care magic platform.
I have read your query & understood your concern.
Skin under eyes is very thin & delicate & is prone to swell with infection/ inflammation/ allergy & irritation of eyes ( stress, Psychological disturbances, crying.
Knowing basic cause forms basis of good treatment & relief . So let us make a short list of possible causes of the condition in your case.
- Allergy.. may come from something you come in contact with eating, inhaling, Physical contact( toiletries, cosmetics, cleaning agents etc. ). It is usually associated with itching & you don't have it .. so seems to be non applicable in your case.
- Infection of eye, sinuses/ kidney infection
- Inflammation can be due to allergy, infection, local irritation due to foreign body in eye/ contact lenses./stress to eyes ( occupational )/refractory error.
- Excessive intake of salt can cause such swelling./ chronic sleeplessness h./ aging is another cause / family tendency has to be considered in such cases.
* I would advise for a consultation of your family physician. He will have an extensive physical examination/ eye examination.
Few investigations like .. Blood counts for deciding allergy cause, thyroid function tests/ serum sodium).. will be done .
Then he may start treatment with specific medicines OR would refer to to Nephrologist ( Kidney specialist)/ Ophthalmologist( for eye problem )/ endocrinologist( to assess thyroid problem Graves )
The specialist would have detailed examination & investigations to confirm the final diagnosis.
The cause specific treatment would help you.
* Personal care-
-Think positive and use cucumber slice/ cool tea bags, potato slice/ cooling gel eye pack over the eyes in morning for 15 -20 minutes.
- treat the root cause with help of a specialist.
- Use under eye treatment daily with like Cucumber , aloevera preparations/ acetyl terapeptide -5 preparation.
- resting eyes periodically while working on computers for long hours.
I hope the answer was both informative & useful to you. Any follow up query is welcome.
In case you find the answer useful please grade it before closing it.
Thanks.
