Brief Answer: consider endometrial biopsy Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing to healthcare magic. The uterus lining or endometrial lining varies in thickness depending on the menstrual cycle. Early in cycle i.e during the period it should be 3-5 mm ideally. Later it will gradually thicken under the influence of hormone to 8-10 mm around the midcycle. You mentioned ultrasound as an emergency. Was there vaginal bleeding? Recent pregnancy? Any drugs taken may also influence the thickness. It would be better to biopsy the endometrium and do a evaluation to check for any hyperplasia abnormalities . Sometimes a benign polyp may also be the reason for increased thickness. So please discuss with your doctor regarding the endometrium biopsy which can be done as an outpatient procedure . If the endometrium is normal then there should be nothing to worry. Please write back if you have any queries. Thanks Dr Bhagyashree

Brief Answer: cancer unlikely at your age Detailed Answer: Dear member, Thanks for writing back. Please don't worry about cancer. Endometrium cancer is more often seen in postmenopause women . Besides you don't have any symptoms. The squamous cells in urine is not related to this condition. I don't think taking birthcontrol pills for this condition without evaluating is a good idea. Atleast you can consider repeating the ultrasound on second day of period. If still the endometrium is thick you can consider a biopsy after discussing with your gynecologist. endometrium biopsy is a easy outpatient procedure with minimum discomfort. You can discuss with your gynecologist regarding the same. Thanks. Dr Bhagyashree
