Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: What can cause lump in your throat feeling? I have had this feeling for 8 hours now. Also I did not have this feeling until after I got up from laying down flat on the floor. Could I have stretched something?

Brief Answer:
Need Upper GI endoscopy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,

I understand your concern.

Feeling of lump like sensation in your throat could possibly relate to upper gastrointestinal abnormality.

For this I advise you to go for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to rule out hiatal hernia and acid reflux related strictures.

Stretching is unlikely in the present context.

Further management is largely based on the test results.

For this I advise you to visit an expert Gastroenterologist .

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

I felt fine before laying down. I was wondering because I did not know if I might have pulled or stretched the hernia out of my stomach. Earlier I had bent over the couch and it seemed like my esophagus had got restricted and felt like it came bent off track from my mouth then a few minutes later came back into place. Is this a cause for immediate concern? I am in bed worried this maybe serious. Right now when I swallow it feels a little restricted. It feels like somethings slightly off track. I am not nauseus nor feel like I am choking. How soon should I see a doctor?

Need to visit your doctor at the earliest.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Yes positional variation like bending over couch can worsen sliding hernia.

It can occasionally lead to features of strangulation.

Its important that you see your doctor at the earliest.
